The Merino sheep is a breed of sheep bred for its beautiful and special Merino Wool. The breed is particularly known from Spain in the Middle Ages, and for many years was bred exclusively there. Merino sheep are now found in large parts of the world.
What distinguishes Merino Wool from other types of wool?
What sets Merino Wool apart from other types of Wool is its fine fibers, which are less than a third the diameter of a human hair. These fine fibers have many benefits, including being super soft and hypoallergenic, but the benefits of Merino Wool go far beyond that.
Is Merino Wool warm to wear?
Unlike other materials, Merino Wool is naturally moisture-wicking, meaning it can absorb sweat and keep you dry, even during intense physical activity. It is also temperature-regulating, meaning it can keep you warm in the cold and cool in the heat, unlike synthetic materials. Due to the natural lanolin in the Wool, you stay dry, comfortable and avoid irritation during movement.
Is Merino Wool durable despite its soft structure?
Merino Wool is also incredibly durable. Despite its soft texture, it can withstand extreme conditions and retain its shape and softness for many years. It is also naturally antibacterial, meaning it does not "hold" odors like many other materials and requires less frequent washing.
Is our Merino Wool mulesing free?
Our Merino Wool yarns come from the company Südwolle and are both mulesing-free and Oeko-tex certified.
How do you maintain and wash Merino Wool?
When caring for and washing your Merino Wool products, it is important to follow some guidelines to ensure they last.
• Wash your woollens at 30℃ on the extra gentle Wool wash programme. Hand washing is not recommended.
• Use liquid detergents specially formulated for Wool and Silk or other gentle liquid detergents. Do not use fabric softener or detergents containing bleach or enzymes.
• Wash inside out and with similar colors. Use a soft laundry bag.
• Do not use bleach.
• Do not use a tumble dryer.
• Gently stretch the damp clothing back to its original shape.
• Lay your clothes out to dry indoors or outside in the shade, so that they lie flat.
• Iron or steam your clothes on low heat to regain length and fit.
• Do not use dry cleaning.
• Our products may become looser in fit with use. The original fit will be restored after gentle washing and ironing.
• The garment will fade and the fabric structures will be damaged if washed at high temperatures and/or on washing programs that are different from the procedure we recommend.
Good to know:
Washing clothes at a lower temperature and for a reduced time in modern washing machines is just as effective as using a normal Cotton wash program. The Cotton wash program is not as gentle as a Wool wash program, so even if the temperature does not exceed 30℃, the speed and spin speed will be too high, and the clothes will gradually be damaged.
Is Merino Wool useful for other than practical purposes?
Merino Wool is more than just a material for sports activities and ski holidays. It can be the classic signature piece in your wardrobe, which together with your other clothes gives it a subtle touch of luxury. Merino Wool gives you endless possibilities to mix and match your style to show your personality in an authentic and comfortable way. Whether you are going hiking, at work, for a dinner date or even to a party.
