Silk is a popular choice not least because of the luxurious feel that Silk gives, and the unique shine and durability that Silk naturally has. For centuries, Silk has been considered a symbol of wealth, status and luxury, which is why leftovers from Mulberry Silk fibers are recycled to produce spun and Recycled Silk.
What is Spun or Recycled Silk?
Spun Silk is a type of recycled Silk made from Mulberry Silk fibers. The material is made by spinning the shorter Silk fibers together using the leftovers from the Silk production process. The result is Silk with a slightly less smooth texture compared to traditional Silk. One of the most impressive benefits is its hypoallergenicity. Spun Silk is a perfect solution for those who want to enjoy Silk and prefer organic and recycled materials.
How is Spun/Recycled Silk made?
In the process of making spun Silk, the used fibers that are left over from the Silk production process are collected. Usually, these are shorter fibers that would otherwise be thrown away. These fibers are then spun together using special machines to create a new, usable yarn. There are no harmful chemicals involved in this production process. Instead, a new yarn is produced that can be used, for example, to knit or weave new fabrics in pure Silk.
What are the advantages of spun or Recycled Silk?
Spun Silk has several advantages. Firstly, it is hypoallergenic, making it particularly suitable for people with sensitive skin. The material also has excellent durability, ensuring that it can withstand wear and tear for a longer period of time. In addition, spun Silk has an innate thermoregulatory property, making the material cool in hot weather and warm in cold environments. With its unique texture, spun Silk is an excellent choice for clothing.
How do you maintain and wash Silk?
Washing and caring for spun Silk is quite simple and similar to caring for traditional Silk. When caring for and washing your Silk products, it is important to follow these guidelines to ensure durability.
• Wash Silken at 30℃ on the extra gentle wool wash program. Hand washing is not recommended.
• Use liquid detergents specially formulated for Silk or other gentle liquid detergents. Do not use fabric softener or detergents containing bleach or enzymes.
• Wash inside out and with similar colors. Use a soft laundry bag.
• Do not use bleach.
• Do not use a tumble dryer.
• Gently stretch the damp clothing back to its original shape.
• Lay your clothes out to dry indoors or outside in the shade, so that they lie flat.
• Iron or steam your clothes on low heat to regain length and fit.
• Do not use dry cleaning.
• Our products may become looser in fit with use. The original fit will be restored after gentle washing and ironing.
• The garment will fade and the fabric structures will be damaged if washed at high temperatures and/or on washing programs that are different from the procedure we recommend.
Good to know:
Washing clothes at a lower temperature and for a reduced time in modern washing machines is just as effective as using a normal Cotton wash program. The Cotton wash program is not as gentle as a Wool wash program, so even if the temperature does not exceed 30℃, the speed and spin speed will be too high, and the clothes will gradually be damaged.
Spun Silk is a thoughtful choice, with the same luxurious look and feel as traditional Silk, but with the added dimension of being a recycled material that has not gone to waste.
